Enough for it to work, but not enough to be very fast (the PS3 reported 2.3 Mbps download). So I bought another DAP1522 and a 50' cable and connected it in Access Point mode (a bit harder then one-button, but really only had to change to dynamic IP and rename it from DLINKAP and set it for 5Ghz only), mounted it where it had a direct line of sight at about 30 feet to the entertainment center DAP1522 bridge. I bought a DAP1522 to use in Bridge Mode from my entertainment center (HTPC, PS3, TiVo, Directv HR20) to my (also D-Link) DIR825 D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router. The one-button WPS setup worked like a champ, but at 60' through a floor and several walls (at angles, which the manual says makes them look much thicker), I could only get a signal strength of about 30%. Now I'm getting 85-90% signal strength and the PS3 is reporting 6.9 Mbps download (the HTPC is in the shop being upgraded, so I can't get better speed test numbers). The upside to the twin DAP1522 configuration is that you could use it to add a 5Ghz bridge to your network without upgrading your router (had I figured this out earlier, I could have saved the money for the DIR825, which is why I'm posting this review). So 3 stars for one, but 5 stars for a pair, leading me to the 4 stars as my rating.
I am using this device in the bridge mode with my Slingcatcher and Slingbox for streaming video from my DirecTV. It is working flawlessly.
Installation was quick and easy, I am using it as a wireless-N bridge to hook up my entertainment system. My HDTV is streaming Amazon VOD HD movies fluidly with no interruptions. XBox LIVE is perfect over this bridge. I turned it on 3-4 weeks ago and haven't had a blip yet.
That way I was able to log in via [.]. Inexplicably, the wireless status on the DAP1522 would ALWAYS show no connection even when it was connected. I will not repeat what was said before, but a few small changes.1) I plugged the DAP1522 directly to my DIR-855 D-Link DIR-855 Xtreme N Duo Dual Band Draft 802.11n Media Router. Just to say - read first the review posted by Michael Christofield "michael". Signal strength is 100% (as seen on DIR-855 status updates) - 2 walls in-between and ~ 8 feet apart - this is for the second floor that always had sucky signal. That way I was able to see when the DAP1522 was connecting via wireless (and it was, numerous times, but then it would drop the connection - actually DIR855 would just set it to "unathorized" ~ minute after it authorized it).4) Tried both manual and via the button - and it would just go through same steps - associate, drop + deauthorize etc).
3) Using my other computer, I logged in the DIR-855 and pulled up status (go -> status then -> wireless) via explorer [.].
The other way of logging in, indicated as "dlinkap" in the "quick install guide" does not work, don't even try.2) I tried all possible and impossible - via button, did not work; via PIN - there was nothing anywhere on any of the DIR-855 or DAP1522 menus to accept PIN.
Then restarted the DAP1522 and now - presto - it works.
Most helpful.
5) At one point, after trying to associate it via the "sync" button on the router and the bridge, all my computers (8 total) dropped off the internet (both wired and wireless).6) I restarted the DIR-855; waited for the computers to come on the internet.
Still flabbergasted, have no idea where is PIN supposed to go.
Don't try.
I can't access it unless I wire into it, but doesn't matter.
I connected the PS3 to it, works great, it is streaming Netflix 2 x better than it did via 2.4 GHz and a lot better than with the old D-Link router (it was unwatchable at that time). The documentation that came with the router is laughable - and it seems that D-Link has the same problem over and over (look at my previous reviews with repeaters and such and reviews of others) - their tech support is clueless and if it were not for Amazon reviews they would probably have all of the products returned.
It took 15 min. Once you get this product hooked up properly; that is, programmed by plugging directly into your computer, it works great. Throw away the manual (you won't believe how ridiculous it is-pure 'plug and play fiction') and save your self an hour and just call customer-support; which was very good (an thankfully the Phillipines, not India; so you can actually understand the tech). on the phone and everything worked great; even with power outages, it resets itself nicely. Range is great, I am going through 6 walls and 4 room away, works perfect.Buy it.
